Lucian Sulica, MD is Featured Speaker at the Colombian Otolaryngology Association's 2019 International Course, Discusses Vocal Injury in Singers, Other Topics

Sean Parker Institute Director Lucian Sulica, MD addressed more than 400 otolaryngologists at the biennial International Course of the Colombian Otolaryngology Association in Cartagena, Feb 28-May 2, on subjects of Institute reseach and expertise. These included the rapidly evolving and controversial topic of vocal fold paresis and vocal fold injury from voice use in performers and others. Both are subjects of investigative focus at the Institute.

Parker Institute Laryngologist Anaïs Rameau, MD MPhil, Awarded Triologic Society Research Development Grant to Study Cough in Vocal Fold Paralysis.

Following a national submission process, the Parker Institute's Dr. Anaïs Rameau, MD MPhil, was awarded a research grant by the American Laryngological, Rhinological and Otological Society, a.k.a “the Triological Society”, to study the effect of vocal fold augmentation via injection laryngoplasty on cough strength. The study will use physiologic and acoustic measures to analyze cough strength before and after injection augmentation of vocal folds in patient with unilateral vocal fold paralysis.

Injection Augmentation Offers No Advantage Over Botulinum Toxin Chemodenervation to Patients with Essential Voice Tremor

An Institute study published in The Laryngoscope showed no clear benefit from injection augmentation over traditional botulinum toxin treatment in a small group of patients essential voice tremor. Botulinum toxin chemodenervation is often less than satisfactory in the symptomatic treatment of voice tremor because of severe breathiness.
