2021 Fall Voice Conference sees Sean Parker Institute Faculty Present on Artificial Intelligence, Steroids for Hoarseness, Mechanisms of Vocal Injury

Faculty from Weill Cornell Medicine's Sean Parker Institute for the Voice presented investigative work on a range of clinical topics at the first in-person Fall Voice Conference since 2019, in Miami, Fl Oct 22-24. Voice pathologist Christine Murphy Estes, MA, CCC-SLP detailed the changes resulting from the use of glucocorticoids for vocal fold swelling. Though common, this intervention has not been precisely characterized, and the use of steroids has been a source of anxiety to performers because of perceived adverse effects.

Sean Parker Institute faculty returned to in-person medical education at the 2021 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, just concluded in Los Angeles, the first otolaryngology meeting to be held in person since the beginning of the pandemic.

2021 American Laryngological Voice and Research Education Grant Awarded to Artificial Intelligence Project at the Sean Parker Institute

Sean Parker Institute laryngologist Dr. Rameau and her research collaborators, including Professor Elemento, director of the Institute for Precision Medicine, were the recipients of the 2021 American Laryngological Voice and Research Education Grant for their project “ A Deep Learning Pipeline for the Automated Classification of Laryngeal Disease in Laryngoscopy Videos.” Deep learning is a discipline of artificial intelligence that has demonstrated significant promise in automated diagnosis based on medical images, such as radiology studies.
