Following a competitive national submission process, the Parker Institute was awarded a research grant by the American Laryngological, Rhinological and Otological Society, a.k.a. "The Triological Society", to study the mechanisms of motor nerve function in the human larynx. The project, led by Parker laryngologist Dr. Babak Sadoughi, will use magnetic stimulation of the brain’s cortex to trigger response signals in the vocal folds and other muscles of the larynx. This innovative study design is expected to further understanding of laryngeal innervation and signal conduction patterns, with the ultimate goal of improving the management of patients suffering from vocal fold paresis and paralysis.
